2A - Bug List
1. When I go to the gym and it's so crowded I can't use anything.
Why? I don't always pay attention to when it will be crowded and sometimes go at peak gym hours.
2. Every time I get a basil plant it dies.
Why? My apartment faces inside a courtyard so there's very little natural sunlight, so it's hard to grow plants in there.
3. My cat leaves litter all over the floor and I'm constantly stepping on it.
Why? The litter is sticky and gets stuck to his paws, then he shakes his paws off after jumping out of the litter box (the majority always gets on the floor instead of the litter mat).
4. Avocados are so hard to get perfectly ripe.
Why? I always buy them when they're hard, and usually they stay hard for awhile until one day they're perfectly ripe. But they very quickly get overripe and mushy.
5. I have too many clothes I don't wear.
Why? I haven't gotten rid of a lot of my old clothes just because I have to take the time to do it and sort out everything, plus I hang onto things that I think that I'll maybe wear again in the future but never do.
6. There is too much unnecessary waste from plastic cups (from starbucks etc).
Why? It is much more convenient to get your coffee to go in one of their plastic cups rather than bringing in your own cup, so people don't take the effort to reduce their waste.
7. There's always a weird in between period where I don't know if my Brita filter needs to be replaced yet or not.
Why? I never keep track of when I last replaced the filter so I rely on how the water tastes as an indicator of when I should replace it, and sometimes it will start slightly tasting different but I'm not sure if it's the filter.
8. My mirror gets so steamy after showers that I can't see anything.
Why? The temperature difference between the hot steam and the mirror make it fog up, and my bathroom doesn't have a fan to ventilate the air.
9. There's always some product left in my skincare bottles that I can't get out.
Why? Oftentimes skincare tubes are shaped weird and product gets stuck in places. The ones with the straws going down into the bottle also never get all the product out just because not all of it will be near the straw to be sucked up.
10. Umbrellas that break if it's too windy by folding backwards.
Why? The umbrellas aren't strong enough to withstand the force of the wind. The only thing they have to hold them in place are a thin metal frame.
11. I keep getting so many random number spam calls.
Why? Not sure but somehow a lot of companies are getting my number.
12. Products like smoked salmon and bacon dry out after you open them.
Why? Because they don't have the zip lock type closer and you have to just leave them ripped open. I don't understand why bacon never has a ziplock closure.
13. New shoes give me blisters.
Why? The shoes are not worn in yet so they're stiff and tighter and rub against my feet more.
14. I always forget to steep my tea for the right amount of time or forget about it until it is cold.
Why? Tea takes a long time to steep and cool down so I do things to keep myself occupied while it is doing that, and forget about it.
15. The hassle of returning online orders.
Why? There's so many steps, you don't want to have to be returning anything in the first place, and sometimes you have to pay to ship items back.
16. Sometimes staying hydrated is a hassle because having to pee so much is inconvenient.
Why? When I'm drinking how much water I should be I pee so much. And at bad times such as classes, car trips etc. I am always the one having to stop to use the restroom.
17. Not having data in my apartment.
Why? It's a bad place for phone reception, and I think the volume of people and the walls make it worse.
18. Sometimes I need random supplies like art stuff, tools, etc that I don't have as a college student but wish I could rent out.
Why? It is not efficient money wise or space wise to have a college apartment stocked with the same types of things that my home has.
19. I like making leftovers because it's nice to not have to cook the next day but I hate the way reheated chicken tastes.
Why? I think that the way the chicken breaks down while being stored, the flavor starts to get "off" and I can't eat it unless it's stored in sauce that covers up the taste.
20. My cat always gets his collar off.
Why? The collar just requires some force and tugging to snap off because it's the type that is supposed to prevent cats from choking if they get it caught on anything.

After reading your post I have to say that the bug list you created is pretty good. I can definitely see some opportunity to fix some problems here. These are most certainly items that are “bugging” other people, which means there would be a market for a solution.
ReplyDeleteI think you were thoughtful in determining the bug list. Are there any services that you use not living up to their hype?
I see a lot of potential to find solutions in your Bug list because most of these problems are simple. I think that it was wise to keep the problems at a small scale because you can build other opportunities off of the problems. For instance, you have a problem with getting blisters on your feet from new shoes. Their is a product out their that you can stick something in the shoes to widen them, but sometimes those don't always work because people have different measurements. So you can build off of the existing idea to improve it. So you have a market that is already there because someone already tried to create a solution.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the entirety of your bug list, I noticed how relatable all of them are. They are things that constantly happen in my life but fail to notice or realize until it's happening in the moment-- even then it's hard for me.

Your bug list is fantastic. I have to say that I really enjoyed reading it. I related a lot to what you wrote down. My favorite bug from your list was number 8. Foggy mirrors after showers are the worst. My only feedback would be to bold or underline some of the content in your bullets so that it is easier to read. Aside from that your post was great.
